Small 4to, a 1932 folding Christmas card with blue printed royal crest to upper cover and blue silk spine tie, featuring a wonderful original photograph of the Duchess of York sitting on a small wall outside with her two young children, Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret.
Inscribed and signed in fountain pen ink above and below the photograph by the future King George VI, ‘With all good wishes for 1933 from Albert’, additionally signed by the Queen Mother as ‘Elizabeth’.
A small tear to the upper left corner of the front of the card, a few minor spots, a little fraying along the fold; very good.
Provenance: This card was previously owned by a collector of British Royal Family memorabilia, who acquired the card from Bonhams twenty years ago.
An exceptionally rare early Christmas card from the future King George VI and his wife Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother; the photograph showing the Queen Mother with the future Queen Elizabeth II (aged six) and Princess Margaret (aged two). Life changed dramatically for the Duke and Duchess of York and their two young children just a few years after the date of this Christmas card. In 1936, King Edward VIII abdicated and Prince Albert acceded to the throne, taking the regnal name King George VI, reigning until his premature death in 1952.
