(AUDUBON, John James.) Puffin Mormon Arcticus Chromolithograph.

£1,250.00

Puffin Mormon Arcticus. Plate 454. A large Chromolithograph, unframed, 40 * 55.5 cm. Published by Julius Bien (New York), 1860.

A beautiful and rare natural history print, presenting in fine condition. A notable addition to any Natural History collection.

The Bien edition of Birds of America was reissued by Audubon's son, John Audubon in New York, commencing in 1858, in an effort to resolve the Audubon family's growing financial problems. The American Civil War brought an end to the project however, and only 15 parts, with 150 images had been produced. These prints, of which the Puffin Mormon Arcticus is one, are rarer than the Havell edition prints, which were produced in the UK.
